Holiday Blizzard Hits Area.
Fortunately, Glenn and I were not driving to Inkom for the holidays this year; we'd probably still be somewhere in Nebraska! Blowing and drifting snow effectively closed down our driveway and the roads left a great deal to be desired. Undeterred, we hatched a Christmas plan to be with Meg, Josh and the Smiley-Guy.
We packed up our contributions to the appetizers menu for the day, our pj's and toothbrushes and the few gifts we needed to deliver. Wearing a backpack and toting a garbage bag, Glenn did pack-mule duty while I slipped and slid along behind. The photo shown here pictures us as we trek up the Jurgen driveway (having trekked down Jackson Creek Road) on Christmas Day!
It took us about 30 minutes to hike there; two different folks -- one on a four-wheeler and another in a pick up truck -- stopped and offered us a lift. We declined, deciding instead that we must walk -- simply because we still can!
Although the rural area received anywhere from 12 - 20" of new snow coupled with high winds, the ambient temperature was relatively warm. At about 32 degrees, we actually worked up a sweat going down . . .fortunately Glenn advised me not to wear my bibbed ski pants; they would have been waaay too hot!
The Jurgens greeted us with open arms, lit Christmas trees, champagne punch and a little bundle of love. . .Miles!
We spent the day eating waay too much in the form of appetizers, drinking an entire punch bowl of champagne punch, playing TABOO and pinochle and just hanging out. The next morning, Meg and Josh took the snowblower to the drive while Glenn did "Smiley-Guy" duty and I cleaned up the aftermath. Shortly before noon, we packed up again for the hike back up the hill. . .in the fresh snow, no wind, and blue skies and sunshine!
Upon arriving at Che Davis we immediately realized our driveway remained clogged. We dug out the snow shovels (no pun intended) again and tackled the area beneath our back deck. While doing so, our "Snow Removal Guy" (a.k.a., Pat Whitworth -- the area's best known good citizen and all around nice guy) showed up to plow us out. He's been here three times; each time he's been operating a different tractor! He cleared our drive, we finished with the areas too close to the house for his big rig. . .now we're back from the post office, ate lunch and read the newspaper. . . .where they're reporting more snow for each of the next three days!! Aargh!! But wonderful!

I thought the picture of the two brave souls plodding through the snow was from a newspaper. Who knew it was you? It does sound as though the trek was certainly worth the effort and a lovely Christmas was had by all.
Hope that 2009 brings you a finished home with lots of working phone lines.
