Ironically, life since the last post has been quiet and hectic simultaneously. Glenn and I have been spending a good deal of time with Meghan and Miles and that part has been quiet . . . moments of cooing occasionally punctuated with cries . . . but gentle times, indeed. We are now being rewarded with Miles of Smiles. At nearly seven weeks, Miles now seems to be controlling his smiles (it's not just gas anymore!) and rewarding us with little chuckles and grins.
Despite this, our days are hectic as well. We've pretty much wrapped up all of the decision-making needed prior to our departure for the midwest a week from today. We've finished up with the paint colors, lighting and plumbing fixtures, flooring and the design of our closet shelves. The cabinetry is under construction even as I write this.
Glenn and I begin the drive to Plainfield, IL on Wednesday, October 8. Will spend several nights with the Hilleslands and visit my mom before moving on to Michigan. I'll be in the midwest until Halloween. My plans are to fulfill an Altrusa commitment made months ago, visit our cabin and Glenn's family, spend a night in Reese with my cousin and then fly back to IL for several days with the Hills again. Sandwiched in there are visits with friends and the Michigan VS MSU football game in Ann Arbor. Whew!
At this point, Glenn plans to remain behind for some bow and rifle hunting. I'll expect him back in Idaho sometime around November 21. Ideally, we'll be moving into our new home within the week after his return. . . our builder keeps telling us will be "in by Thanksgiving."
So much for QUIET . . . we'll just be at HECTIC by then!
While we're gone, Joshua's folks and grandfather will be here. Marsha, Miles' other grandma, will do daycare duty the week of October 27; I'll take over November 3.
In other news, son-in-law Joshua brought home an exciting announcement! Despite having only been with his new company Agrium less than six months, he's earned his first promotion! An opening for the plant's Reliability Engineer opened up and he was approached as "the preferred candidate." He begins his new responsibilities on November 3. This promotion includes a pay grade bump-up and a raise. Most importantly, the job description sounds right up his alley!
And a few other things. . .
*We've made the acquaintance of a couple about our age who live between the Jurgen's and our new home, about 1/3 of the way "up the hill." Talk about ironies! They are both retired educators, who moved here from AZ to be near son and grandchildren, he's an avid hunter, they heated their home with wood for 15 years (been there, done that) and they, too, have property for sale with no offers yet!
*Recalling the shepherd and his flock we saw on the firewood run. . .about 4 or 5 days ago, Glenn looked out the back window and up the mountain. . .saw a cloud of dust. . .and realized it was several hundred sheep! They're "coming down the mountain" so to speak. We've seen them, the shepherd and his dogs in various fields around here.
*Mule deer also seem on the move as we've been seeing several in the ravine 'above' the Jurgen house each morning on our walks.
*The result of Glenn's scouting for hunting sites on public land . . . the best game trail he's seen is just up the hill from the Jurgen's. On the same day he scouted, we had deer tracks in our new driveway!
Off to take a poppy seed cake out of the oven and assist with bathtime!

So glad to hear of all the wonderful things happening in your lives. I salute you & Glenn and your commitments to finding joy in life. I am working on it! I certainly hope that there will be time for a visit when you come to Michigan. Take care and say HI to all the Jurgens for us.
