. . .well, o.k. . . . we never really were in Kansas to begin with. . .even Kansas has more rolling hills than our little corner of Tuscola County, Michigan! And to prove it, Glenn took this photo of me yesterday at the Pebble Creek Ski Area which we can see from our house. (O.k. . . . on my computer in the lower right corner of the screen is a magnifying glass which allows me to zoom in on an internet page. Try zooming in this page REAL big. In the photo, I've drawn a red rectangle around our house.)
We still marvel at the scenery in this area of the country. To think that I'm standing on a ski run looking out over the Snake River Valley (Remember the Robert Redford movie A River Runs Through It? Same river) . . . and can see my own house in the distance . . . still completely amazes me.
Glenn and I have both purchased annual passes to Pebble. . . it's really a no-brainer considering that the pre-season price of $249 + tax entitles us to ski as often as we want through the end of the 08-09 season and all of next season as well. I've been up four times since buying the pass and those trips alone would have cost $120.
When people occasionally ask me how well I ski, my answer is "Not bad for someone in her third season." What I generally leave out is "However, I'm in my eighth season." Too much information is not always a good thing.
Pebble Creek Ski is a good bargain for skiers; it has three chair lifts , 50+ runs and gorgeous scenery. From my perspective as a skier who (A) still doesn't like fast (B) is reluctant on steeps and is (C) more tenacious than talented . . . it's a ski hill that certainly will challenge me.
There's a terrific beginner area with a run that's longer than any in Michigan. However, between "beginner" and "black diamond" . . . there's not much. Oh, sure, they put the "blue box" on a few runs which means "intermediate". . . but from the LIPS OF THE HEAD SKI INSTRUCTOR HIMSELF "our blues are really blacks"!
So, my form sucks . . . but I don't scream very often anymore, pretty much have conquered my chair lift anxieties , and keep plugging away. Glenn is extremely patient with me and encouraging as well. Some day, I may actually get to the point of being a real skier, not just a wannabe.
