That said, I've had several folks email and ask for photos of the inside of the house. I tried for hours to set up a slideshow again, but simply could not get it to work. . . so finally gave up and developed the following series of posts with photos and rudimentary captions. I'm hoping it will just give those of you interested in our new world a little insight. . . and perhaps the desire to come see it firsthand and visit us!
(PS: I apologize in advance for some of the odd placements and empty spaces. I'm still getting the hang of this!)
The front of our home faces west/slightly northwest. The exterior is covered with seamless steel siding, recommended by our builder. Now we know why. Having experienced the nearly 50MPH winds last week, we know he was right when he told us the "wind'll just rip the vinyl off." Glenn selected the colors for the outside; yellow siding and blue shingles.The dormers on the roof are not false; the one the far left illuminates the stairs leading to the bonus room. The two on the right illuminate the 3/4 - 2/3 of the bonus room that is not finished off (the attic).
Our general contractor is a really nice guy, but he sort of lost track of the original plan . . . and therefore forgot to tell the "Railing Guy" that we were to have some upright pillars on the front. So. . . in the spring when they return to pour the concrete step and sidewalk, three while pillars will be placed in front.
We're not having a lawn for two primary reasons (A) to have a lawn in this high-desert country requires lots of watering. We don't want to water. (B) We don't want to mow, either. So, we will be allowing Mother Nature to have her way with the yard. . . most likely it will fill in with sage.
A very long, horse-shoe shaped drive leads to the back of our home. This side of the house faces primarily east.On the lower level is an under-garage. It is approximately 33' deep. It is more than ample for parking both the pickup and Explorer, storing the pop-up camper and having room to spare.
The patio doors to the right of the garage walk in to the unfinished basement. The basement has been framed for two more bedrooms and rough plumbing is there for a future owner's bath. Right inside the doors Glenn and I keep all of our exercise equipment; we can do sit-ups and lift weights while looking out of the windows!
The level which appears to be "upper" in this picture is actually the main floor; it's at ground level out the front. The patio doors at the far left are the master bedroom; near the center the door leads into the great room. The four windows at the far right are in the dining room.
Every worker who's been to the house has commented on the back deck. It's completely covered and 12' deep. So many homes in our area feature uncovered decks on the south and/or west sides. They are never used in the summer because the heat and sun are too intense. Both the front porch and back deck of our house are covered, so any time of day we should be able to use one or both without being fried by the sun, or occasionally, drowned by the rain!
