INVERTED AERIALS, AMENITIES AND ACROBATICS

No, we didn't actually do any inverted aerials while skiing Sunday, January 18 at the Pomerelle Ski Resort near Albion. At least, none on purpose!
But, inversion did factor into our day, at least a weather-related inversion.
For the past week or so, we've been sitting under a high-pressure system that moved in quickly and forcing cold air downward. On our drive to the ski resort, we hit lows near 10 degrees Fahrenheit and travelled through some dense fog. However, the inversion meant that as we climbed in elevation the air temperatures, rather than get colder, actually got warmer!
In this photo of Glenn, taken from the top of the ski hill, in the far distance can be seen the fog which blanketed portions of the valley nearly all day long. However, at the resort itself, temperatures climbed into the very pleasant 30's, it was sunny with beautiful blue skies. A great day to be outdoors!
We skied from 9:30 until nearly 2:00 with a picnic break outdoors. Pomerelle is my personal favorite ski hill out here. Enough runs that challenge me, but low-key and small. I can't get lost here. Never any big crowds, either.
As always, we are interested in the ways that life in the great American west differs from what we experienced in the midwest. Glenn pointed out an interesting billboard along the expressway on Sunday. We're used to seeing signs for upcoming hotels, most proclaiming the typical amenities (hot tub, free breakfast, free HBO, etc). However, that sign was the first time we'd ever seen a hotel offering horse stalls. Talk about pet-friendly!! But, lots of folks out here have pleasure horses and they cart 'em all over for trail rides. Ideally, the stalls are outdoors (and not in the room next door?)!!
In the acrobatics department, we are pleased to announce that Grandpa Glenn's continual coaching is beginning to pay off. Miles can now turn from his stomach to his back (rolling one way only. . . but it's a start!). In addition, Sunday evening Miles finally granted his mother's wish for an uninterrupted night of sleep when he went to bed at 7:30 p.m. and was still sleeping when she woke him up for the trip "up the hill to Grandma and Grandpa's" at 5:00 a.m.
Today's activities include watching the historic inauguaration, more sunshine (the extended forecast calls for temps in the low to mid 30's at least through Thursday, January 29; a few snow showers and some RAIN called for next week), and other antics that Grandpa and Miles (my boys) think up!
