Miles naps, Glenn plays racquetball and I try to catch up in the home office, an impossible task I've concluded. My "to-do" list (which I keep handily updated in an Excel spreadsheet . . . just goes to show being left-brained ain't all it's cracked up to be) never reaches a point where all items are 'checked off'. . . merely replaced by new stuff to do!
However, in the last couple of days working in the office and 'round about the rest of the house has been rewarding just in the views of wildlife from our windows. Late yesterday afternoon, 14 mule deer lay in the sun, out of the wind, on a hill across from the front of the house. This morning, the kids reported that five of them ran off from our yard when they drove to deliver precious bundle Miles-Guy.
Last evening during dinner, we paused periodically to share the binoculars. A large eagle, we believe it was a golden, hovered just beyond our house and not too far above the dining room windows. Against a patch of brilliant blue sky, seeing it hover for long moments was an incredible experience.
In addition to the cats we are now seeing prowling our five acres in search of mice, voles and other varmints, today Glenn also spotted a "striped kitty" (aka, skunk) toddling along the fence line near the rear of our lot.
Snow continues to recede up the mountains, but locals told us to expect the last patch to disappear about mid-July. Right now, everything is green as the last several days of spring rains and warmer temps brings out the leaves and some small flowering plants. Ideally, we'll get the early seed in the garden this coming weekend.
In the meantime, I can hear the Miley-Guy springing back to life after a nap . . . he and I will soon participate in one of our daily rituals . . . looking out the windows to count all of the "horsies" we can see.
