Sister Brenda reported that Mae "Lit up like a Christmas Tree!" when she saw visitors Aunt Betty and Uncle Bill Valeck Saturday afternoon, May 2.
Betty and Bill drove all the way from Saginaw, MI to Plainfield, IL for a weekend stay at the Hilleslands . . . but most importantly, to visit Mae.
Of course, Bill has known mom since he was a young boy. The Blondell and Valeck households near Gagetown, MI were separated by only a field, and connected by a lane. Mom told me on more than one occasion that she could still see Bill running down the lane to her house, and sitting at the end of her ironing board eating cookies and drinking milk.
Brenda's voice was full of love and laughter as she recalled the fun had with our Aunt and Uncle and the response of Mae to their visit.
It was a very special thing they did. . .driving all that way to visit her.
