It was an exciting morning at our building site today, in fact, we were fairly incredulous!
Glenn and I walked up the hill to meet with our builder this morning. We chatted with him for perhaps half an hour and then around 8:30 a.m. started our walk back.
It's probably 1/4 - 3/8 of a mile from our lot on Whitworth Rd. to the crossroad at Jackson Creek Road. We were probably 75-100 yards from the corner when we began hearing a siren, such as on an ambulance. We kept walking, wondering where the ambulance was and was going, when to our surprise, it turned the corner and headed up our road. Even more surprising, it drove into our driveway and up to our home site!
Not only that, eventually it was followed by two other ambulances, three search/rescue vehicles, three Bannock County Sheriff's deputies and a fire truck! Holy Hanna . . . what was going on? We'd just been to our site less than ten minutes before!
So, we turned around and hiked back, waiting patiently for our builder to join us with an explanation. We noticed that oddly, the entire building crew continued to work on our framing and not really pay much attention to an injured man or the rescue workers assisting him.
Shortly, we learned the explanation for all of the brough-ha-ha.
Glenn and I had noticed a semi-truck going past us hauling a side-dumper trailer. What we didn't realize is that the driver had gone past our new home, over the hill and attempted a turn into the next drive which belongs to the owner of an excavation company.
In negotiating the turn, either (A) the trailer's load shifted (B) the driver was going too fast or (C) the driver turned too widely. In any event, he rolled his truck and trailer off the drive and down the hill. Since our building site had the only action in the neighborhood at that time in the morning on a business day, he had managed to scramble back up the hill and ask the workers to call for an ambulance.
We were quite impressed with the speed with which the response came and the number of personnel and vehicles in place! We were also quite thankful that no part of any accident or injury had occurred on our property!
Hopefully, this will be the ONLY time rescue vehicles are called to our home!
